I strive to be someone much more than what I am, and I surround myself with those that do the same. We all cast out our empty nets into this vast ocean far beyond human eyes and into stretches unaccustomed to the fingers that are trapped in the longitudes of this timid globe. I walk around just as everyone else investigating endless possibilities of this circular orb, but in the dead of night I too awaken with the only thing caught in my net, but a lone fish that has become trapped in the current.
Our society has a crisis in perception. Those of us that seek to overcome this even so become trapped in our own nets that we seek to find the answers to all. We spend time pondering, postulating, pointing fingers, and in the end we only catch ourselves alone and naked with our self-realization yet lack of self-actualization. What am I talking about? I am talking about the detriment of society that is our still abiding by Descartes' methods of actualization.
This dead philosopher did great things in his time and shaped the way for Newton and several other great thinkers. He postulated that everything is a machine and has inner workings just like one. Whether it is me, you, your dog, an organization, anything. While this novelty of an idea sparked a great wave of thinking that would ultimately change the world, we do not need to pay homage to it by chaining ourselves down to its meaning. We are NOT machines. For his time, that type of thought was needed, but now we are seeking to grow for the sake of growing. Produce and develop for its own sake rather than looking at the organism as a whole, for that is what everything is, humans, organizations, society, we are organisms that must have a balance in every aspect to survive.
When a machine breaks what do you do? Fix the problem, and move on. Now think about how this applies to our world. A patient comes in with gall stones. The doctor decides to fix this problem he is going to remove the gall bladder and be done with it. Problem solved!...wrong. You removed the gall bladder, sure that gets rid of the problem of gall stones, but what about the stress that the body is now under without it or the stress that it was put under to remove or the stress that was there while it was a problem that led to interconnected problems. What about the environmental and dietary habits that led to this problem and will ultimately lead to more. We are not machines; we cannot simply stop a mechanism of a problem and expect to solve a problem. All it is doing it stopping the problem from manifesting in that avenue.
Society suffers from a crisis in perception in that the way to fix things is to intervene when something is going on. A narrow mindset causes them to wait for something to go wrong, and when that one thing goes wrong, to go in chop it off and move on. Descartes' wonderful theories cannot be applied in this age as we know now that everything is interlinked. In order to strive forward, we must prevent not intervene. We must change the values and ideas of a situation in order to fix a problem. Why not change the patient's diet and habits and let the problem disappear that way. That way the whole body benefits and is spared from the stress that could have been avoided.
Looking at the big picture and realizing there is a crisis in the way people perceive things is only half the battle. Many of us have become self-realized to the point where we realize this issue, but how many of has have become self-actualized in that we try to disseminate and influence others to see the same way. Do not give up and become that fish caught in your own net. Do not spend all your time casting out nets into an unknown hoping for some tangible realization that will never come. Cast nets on people not on hapless ideas and thoughts and hopes that may not even exist.
